Investing in the Future of Sedgwick Cricket Club
As you will be aware, over recent years we have made significant investment in the facilities at Sedgwick Cricket Club, most notably the new changing facilities. By improving our Club we can attract and retain players for all our teams, including the ever-growing Juniors and Ladies’ team.
We believe Sedgwick Cricket Club to be a great community asset, and the future of the Club and its place in our community lies in ongoing development and sustainability.
For many years we have looked into buying a parcel of land adjacent to the playing area, in the field across from the long fence. This would extend the outfield and make the boundaries of equal length all-round the ground.
We have previously made enquiries to buy the land but were met with a purchase figure far beyond our reach. Instead, fundraising efforts were focused on the changing facilities which we all agree was money well spent.
Earlier this year, the subject of purchasing this land arose once again through discussions with George Willacy Snr and the landowner, with a more palatable asking price of £25,000 (plus our share of legal fees and moving the fence).
The Committee has discussed this at length, and we firmly believe this is an opportunity to make a positive investment in the future of Sedgwick Cricket Club.
We are sharing this information with the Club members (and the general public) and would like to hear anyone’s input and opinion on this matter.
The reduced asking price is still a significant amount, a figure which the Club does not have in savings or cash reserves, so we are in need of raising funds to enable the purchase.
We have already had generous offers of two donations; however, we would still need to raise an additional amount of approximately £20,000 to cover the costs involved.
The Committee is already busy planning fundraising events and activities to help achieve this figure, and we are asking individuals to see if they might be willing to contribute to our fundraising efforts.
How You Can Help
We are not asking for any commitment at this point in time, rather an indication of support from members and friends of the Club, and what level this support this may be.
You can use the form (below) to indicate what you may potentially be able to contribute.
And I fully expect you may want to find out more about our plans and details of this proposed purchase before considering what – if any – level of support you might be able to offer.
Therefore, should you wish to discuss or require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact either myself, Ian Wilson (Secretary) or John Wright (Treasurer), or any member of the Committee.
Thank you for reading and your continued support for Sedgwick Cricket Club.
